Manie Groenewald has been involved in small groups himself for nearly two decades. It was over the past eight years, though, that he has been leading the Small Group Ministry in two different congregations, of which the last were the well-known Moreletapark Church in the east of Pretoria. It was here that his passion was ignited to see people getting anchored in groups of community as we learn from the book of Acts in the Bible.
The well-known German theologian and writer, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, once wrote the following about being anchored in community with others:
“Let him who is not in community beware of being alone. Into the community you were called, the call was not meant for you alone; in the community of the called you bear your cross, you struggle, you pray.”
Apart from regularly seeing people that have faced different kinds of struggles in their lives, Manie has also experienced a fair ampount of his own struggles throughout his life journey. He has seen the massive impact – and experienced the wonderful value – Biblical community can have in one’s life. Therefore, he is passionate to help churches establish a small group ministry of their own, or to build out the existing ministry of groups, so that more lives may be changed through this.
You are invited to contact him here for valuable insight and practical help in a number of ways.
The Small Group Network (SGN)
After attending a ministry-changing workshop, presented by Pastor Steve Gladen from Saddleback Church in California, he returned to South Africa and offered his help to serve the Kingdom voluntarily in a broader way. Since November 2017 this forms part of Manie’s calling.
He currently serves as the national coordinator and the Southern African regional leader of the Small Group Network (www.smallgroupnetwork.com). Founded by Steve Gladen, the Small Group Network is a free world-wide network for leaders of small group ministry. They exist to connect, encourage, and resource ministry leaders and help to establish interdenominational huddles* in various cities all over the world.
We would like to invite you to join them in one of the already established huddles. Currently there are huddles in the following cities, numbering 13 groups in total:
- Cape Town
- Port Elizabeth
- White River
* Huddle – A huddle is a group of pastors or ministry leaders of the small group ministry at their respective churches, who gathers 3-4 times per year for encouragement and mutual support, the sharing of information on resources, and the ministry itself.
Visit www.smallgroupnetwork.com to register and become part of the network of leaders, not only in South Africa but ultimately worldwide…and make more impact through what you learn from others and by returning the favour for their benefit as well!
